Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Peoples
Our First Nations Peoples
When Mary Aikenhead missioned the five Sisters of Charity, she gave them a crucifix with a black image of Jesus. This gift remains a significant symbol for the Sisters today as we are forever mindful of the First Nations people of this land.
Sisters have engaged in Ministries directly working with and walking alongside our First Nations People, as we are committed to the Uluru Statement from the Heart.
Our ministries across health, education, criminal justice, various forms of pastoral, welfare and social work reflect our fourth vow of Service of the Poor. We remain committed to social justice and inclusion.
