Safeguarding Children and Vulnerable Adults

The mission of the Sisters of Charity contributes to that which Jesus Christ entrusted to the Church.  We therefore recognise and uphold the dignity and rights of every child and adult with whom we interact.

We are committed to Safeguarding, understood as the prevention of harm, with a special focus on care for children and adults who are at risk. Our Safeguarding Commitment Statement notes that we value the children and vulnerable, drawing upon the example of Jesus who said “Let the children come to me for it is them to whom the kingdom of God belongs.”

As the document Our Common Mission (p.3) states:  “Safety and integrity [are] at the centre of culture, relationships, stewardship and formation for mission.”

Our Safeguarding culture is supported by Policies and Procedures and a Safeguarding Code of Conduct underpinned by the National Catholic Safeguarding Standards.

Additionally the Congregation has committed to a Promise Statement acknowledging the failings of the past and promising action to contribute to healing and to prevention of harm in the future.

After undertaking an education program, members and staff sign our Safeguarding Code of Conduct, undertaking that they understand their personal responsibility to abide by the provisions of each of these documents and at all times to protect themselves and the people with whom they may come into contact through their work for or with the Congregation.
