The Religious Sisters of Charity of Australia petitioned the Congregation for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life to create a public juridic person known as Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
By decree dated April 25th 2008, Mary Aikenhead Ministries was erected as a public juridic person of pontifical right to succeed certain education, health, aged care and welfare activities of the petitioning Institute.
Mary Aikenhead Ministries continues the mission of Jesus Christ, operates in conformity with the teaching, discipline and law of the Roman Catholic Church and builds on the charism and traditions of the Sisters of Charity.
The Congregation of the Sisters of Charity is at present the sole member of Mary Aikenhead Ministries. A member representative is appointed to exercise all the powers of the member represented. There are no less than 5 and no more than 9 Trustees appointed by the member representative. The Trustees are the canon law stewards of all ministries sponsored by Mary Aikenhead Ministries. Canonical Statutes and a civil Constitution set out the governance responsibilities of Mary Aikenhead Ministries.
